When is the Best Time to Get Pregnant
When a couple decides to
conceive a child, their
first question is “When is
the best time to get
pregnant?” The best time to
get pregnant is right before
a woman ovulates. You can
track ovulation in a variety
of methods. There's the
calendar method (which only
works if you have a regular
cycle), there's the basal
temperature tracking method
(this requires daily
temperature taking at the
same time each day), and
some women can tell when
they are ovulating simply by
a discomfort they feel in
one side of their abdomen.
Ovulation kits that measure the LH levels are probably the most effective way to tell when you are ovulating, especially since you'll know before ovulation, rather than after.
All of these things can help you pinpoint the best time to get pregnant, but no couple should put all of their stock in letting science decide when they have sex.
First of all, not every woman ovulates regularly. By using the calendar method, for example, you could end up missing the most fertile time and not even realize it. Because of this, couples should have sex regularly. Having sex three times a week will help you hit your most fertile period. It will also relieve some of the stress you and your partner may feel. Being stressed can have a negative affect on both your fertility and your health, so don't put all of your hopes on a single session of intercourse.
You should have sex before, rather than during or after ovulation. The egg only survives for about 24 hours after ovulation. Male sperm, however, lasts anywhere between three or five days. If you have sex before you ovulate, the sperm will be waiting to impregnate the egg.
Although there is nothing wrong with having sex every day, it might help your conception if you have sex every other day instead, especially if your partner has low sperm count. This will give a day for the sperm to replenish itself.
Finally, trust your hormones! Both men and women feel more sexually attracted to their partner when the woman is the most fertile. So, if you think your partner is extra handsome today, take that as a sign!
