Fertility Diet
We all know that what you eat can help you get pregnant. People who struggle with conceiving may turn to an infertility diet. I don't believe that a strict diet that you won't enjoy is the best way to get pregnant, but I do believe that eating right can increase the chance you have of getting pregnant. Plus, you'll have a chance to develop now the healthy eating habits that you want to pass on to your future offspring.
Rule number one of the fertility diet: eat healthy. The majority of the food you eat should be vegetables, whole grains, fruits, legumes, and nuts. These foods are low in trans fats, refined carbohydrates, and excessive sugars. They are also full of fiber, vitamins, and minerals.
Three of the most important things you can add to your diet are whole grains, green leafy vegetables like collard greens, kale, and mustard greens, and nuts such as walnuts. These foods tend to be high in B6 and folic acid. Vitamin B6 helps regulate reproductive hormones. When you do get pregnant, folic acid is important because it protects the fetus.
The best fruit to eat when you are trying to get pregnant is citrus fruit. That's true for both the woman and the man. The Vitamin C in citrus fruits will increase your fertility.
What you drink can be just important
as what you eat. Now is the time to cut back on sugary sodas and
caffeine laden coffee. Instead, drink more water. Liven up plain
water with slices of orange, lemon or cucumber. Also, start your
morning with a cup of green or black tea. Women who drink tea
regularly are more likely to conceive. While caffeinated tea is
fine, watch the amount of sugar that you add.
You should also examine how much meat is in your diet. Being a vegetarian or a vegan does not hurt your fertility, but some meat in your diet is also fine. Numerous studies show that eating protein from plant sources instead of animal sources can increase your fertility. Also, plant food has more fiber than meat, which is important for fertility. Try experimenting with different meatless meals throughout the week.
Not only can eating the right foods
increase your chance of getting pregnant, eating the wrong foods can
decrease your chances. Cut out trans fat, which can be found in
margarine, fried foods, and hydrogenated oils. Good fats, such as
what you find in avocados and olive oil, are fine. Keep in mind that
while a high BMI can decrease your fertility, so can too low of a
BMI.
While a fertility diet is a great thing to follow, it doesn't guarantee conception. It's simply one tool that you can use while you trying to conceive.
